BASILE, La. — In the quarterfinal round of the Louisiana 1A playoffs, No. 5 seed Kentwood defeated No. 4 seed Basile 32-15 Friday night.
With the win, Kentwood improved to 9-2 overall and advanced to play in the semi-final round against top-seed and 12-0 Haynesville at home next Friday.
Kentwood’s Shyheim Carter shined in the win as he rolled up 300 yards of total offense.
Carter had six carries for 132 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 8-of-11 passes for 168 yards and three more touchdowns.
Kentwood’s Thomas Route had three catches for 55 yards and one touchdown, while Leslie Collins had three receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown.
Kentwood scored first on a 30-yard pass play from Carter to Route. Carter kicked the PAT.
Basile answered with two scores. The first was an 8-yard pass to Blaise Hebert from Mark Ledoux. Kendric Ceasar’s two-point conversion run was good. Basile led 8-7.
Basile’s next score came as Caesar scooted 58 yards and Ledoux kicked the PAT. Basile led 15-7.
Kentwood scored twice before the half for a 19-15 lead going into the locker room. Carter scored on runs of 47 and 76 yards to give the Kangaroos the halftime advantage.
Kentwood scored twice in the third quarter on a 28-yard pass from Carter to Collins and then on a 36-yard run by Tommy Diamond.
The Kentwood defense allowed Basile 177 yards of total offense, while the Kangaroos finished with 326 total yards.
Darryn McKnight led Kentwood defensively with 15 tackles.
Kentwood did not have any turnovers in the ball game.
Kentwood and Haynesville kick off at 7 p.m. Friday in Kentwood.
