BROOKHAVEN — The McComb Tigers continued their hot start to the 2013-14 prep basketball season Saturday night with a convincing 67-45 win on the road over Brookhaven.
The Class 4A Tigers improved to 4-0 overall on the year behind a 22-5 run in the third quarter of action against Brookhaven, a Class 5A school.
“There was a lot of teamwork out there, we are really working together well,” McComb head coach Hilton Harrell said.
The Tigers had three players score in double figures, led by Stacey Mack, who notched a game-high 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. Mack also dominated the paint with seven rebounds and six blocked shots.
Harrell also praised the play of guard tandem Antonio Johnson and Antonio Cowart, who scored 16 and 13 points, respectively. Cowart also added five rebounds and five assists while Johnson recorded three rebounds and four assists.
Harrell praised the play of his three playmakers.
“Antonio Cowart, Antonio Johnson and Stacey Mack, they’re all playing their roles,” Harrell said. “We’re doing a better job of taking care of the basketball and minimizing turnovers.”
McComb committed 17 turnovers in the game, but also had 17 assists on 27 made field goals and recorded nine steals.
“We can always improve on defense, but there is always something to work on,” Harrell said.
The Tigers return to action next Monday night at Oak Grove before going on Thanksgiving break. McComb will then be off until Dec. 10 when it takes on Franklin County.
