BUDE — Hazlehurst edged Franklin County 12-11 in extra innings to earn the Indians’ first ever season sweep of the Bulldogs on a foggy night in the Franklin County Swamp.
The Indians (14-6, 6-2) clinched a playoff spot in the process, as Jarvis Warner, Deontea McKenzie and Gabriel Gray collected big hits for the visitors.
Franklin County battled but never led in either game.
Bulldog errors gave the Indians a 3-0 first inning advantage, and Hazlehurst retained the lead until late in the contest when Franklin County mounted a rally to tie the game at 8-8 on a two-RBI double by senior Brett Buckels to force extra innings.
Gray collected the victory on the mound for the Indians, striking out five and walking three in four innings of work.
He was the pitcher of record when Hazlehurst put the game away with a fly out to center field, and the Indians celebrated the victory.
Franklin County relief pitcher Calvin Robinson absorbed the loss for the Bulldogs.
