Class 3A powerhouse Hazlehurst handed Franklin County its eighth straight loss Friday night by the score of 28-15 inside Meadville’s Louie Mullins Memorial Stadium.
The duo of Tim Steward and Jahem James led the powerful Hazlehurst offense in scoring, as Steward accounted for three touchdowns and James with one.
Hazlehurst (5-2, 1-0), is ranked 4th in Class 3A. The Indians held a 7-0 halftime leas before adding to it in the second half.
James, a 5-foot-6, 160-pound sophomore led the Indians in rushing with 90 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.
Hazlehurst had 221 yards on the ground.
Franklin County, (0-8, 0-2) kept the score close for three quarters.
Jaquan Brown threw a 25-yard TD strike to Cameron Young with 4:54 left in the third quarter to make it 14-7 Hazlehurst.
Young, fresh off being named to the Bernard Blackwell All-Star Game on Thursday had a solid night for the Bulldogs.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Young, doubled as a two-way playmaker at tight end and defensive end. He caught a TD pass and delivered several key blocks on offense and had 11 tackles on defense.
Still the night belonged to Hazlehurst.
The Indians flexed their muscles in the fourth period, by scoring two touchdowns to put the game away.
Franklin County added a late five-yard TD run by Brown for the final margin.
Brown went 5-for-10 passing for 47 yards and scored two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs play host to Port Gibson (5-2) on Friday for a key Region 7-3A contest beginning at 7.
