The Brent Harris Basketball Camp is returning to Southwest Mississippi Community College on June 25 and 26, according to a news release from the college.
The camp will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Bear Basketball Center both days for girls entering the sixth through 12th grades.
Cost of the camp is $50, which includes a T-shirt, lunch both days and insurance.
Registration begins on June 25 at 8:30 a.m. before activities get under way.
The camp will be led by SMCC women’s basketball coach Brent Harris and assistant coach Britta Stephens. Harris was an assistant coach with the Lady Lions of Southeastern Louisiana University for 10 years before arriving in Summit as head coach of the Lady Bears, and is no rookie in running youth basketball camps.
“I believe a basketball camp must focus on fundamentals and having fun through competition,” Harris said.
The Lady Bears’ chief plans to work on fundamentals like ball-handling, defense, shooting, rebounding, passing and footwork, according to a brochure.
Harris also plans to incorporate 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 competitions throughout the camp to allow participants to develop team-building skills while also giving them a chance to work on fundamentals.
