MEADVILLE — One week after setting a school record for most points scored in a football game, the Franklin County Bulldogs suffered their first home shutout since 2005.
The Brookhaven Panthers shocked the Bulldogs with a 20-0 beating Friday night at Louie Mullins Memorial Stadium.
“I’m disappointed,” said Franklin County first-year head coach Rickey O’Quinn Jr. “Our defense played good, but penalties and missed assignments hurt us on offense.”
The loss came one week after Franklin County opened the season with a 62-7 lashing of Loyd Star in the Bulldogs’ season opener.
The Bulldogs (1-1) had their chances in a game that was a lot closer than the final score indicated.
Two dropped touchdown passes and two turnovers inside the red zone killed four opportunities for Franklin County.
Brookhaven senior quarterback Duwone Harris kept the Bulldogs at bay.
Harris scored two touchdowns on the ground, while rushing for a game-high 114 yards on 16 carries. He also threw for 130 yards on 7-of-14 passing.
The Panthers held a 7-0 lead at intermission, before pulling away in the fourth quarter.
Franklin County was led on defense by junior linebacker Jeremy Hunt with 10 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.
Franklin County will visit McComb on Friday night at 7:30.
