PASCAGOULA — The Bogue Chitto Bobcats extended their winning streak to eight in a row on Friday, defeating the Resurrection Catholic Eagles 48-28. The Bobcats are 8-0 overall, and 6-0 in Region 4 1-A.
As a team, Bogue Chitto rushed 46 times for 366 yards. The Eagles had just 48 yards on 18 carries.
Bobcat quarterback Brock Roberts completed 8 of 12 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown. He had one interception. Roberts had 221 yards rushing on 28 carries.
Running back Jermaine Blackwell finished the game with 16 carries for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Leading the Bobcat receiving corps was Dennis Rogers, who had four catches for 41 yards. Damien Terrell had two receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown. Eli Wallace had two catches for 51 yards and a score.
Eagles’ quarterback Larry Sisson had three carries for 16 yards. He completed 20 of-27 passes for 235 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Patrick Watts had seven carries for 31 yards.
The leading receivers for Resurrection Catholic were Troy Cobb, who had four catches for 87 yards, and Michael Gatchett, who had six catches for 68 yards.
Bogue Chitto got on the scoreboard first when Damien Terrell hauled in a 35-yard pass from Roberts.
The Bobcats took a 14-0 lead with 5:36 in the first quarter on a 17-yard touchdown scamper.
The Eagles cut into the Bogue Chitto lead on a 26-yard pass from Christian Miller. Miller also kicked the PAT. Bogue Chitto led 14-7.
With 2:51 left in the first quarter, Bogue Chitto’s Jermaine Blackwell scored on a 30-yard touchdown run..
The Eagles scored with only seconds left before the half on an 18-yard pass from Sisson to Cobb.
Bogue Chitto answered on Roberts’ 1-yard scoring run at the end of the third quarter.
Resurrection scored midway through the fourth quarter on a 19-yard pass from Sisson to Cobb. Whit Davis was good on the extra point.
Roberts scored again on a 4-yard touchdown run. The Bobcats’ final score came on a 44-yard pass from Roberts to Eli Wallace.
Bobcats kicker Cameron Price converted 5-of-6 PATs on the evening.
For the Bobcats defensively, Jeremy Blackwell had 13 tackles, and Roberts finished with seven tackles of his own. Kayin Perkins had six tackles, and Terrell had five tackles and an interception. Price recovered a fumble for the Bobcats.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 1-5 on the season.
The Bobcats entered Friday’s action as the No. 1 ranked 1A team in Mississippi’s most recent prep polls, and maintained their perfect record in 2013.
The team continues to be paced by its potent offense, which is averaging more than 41 points per game this season.
The Bobcats have scored at least 38 points in every game but one, a 17-12 win over Lumberton on Oct. 11.
Bogue Chito next visits Hinds County AHS on Friday. AHS defeated Dexter 13-8 Thursday. The AHS game is schedueld for 7 p.m.
