ENTERPRISE — In a Thursday night affair, the Bogue Chitto Bobcats improved to 2-0 on the season with a convincing 40-16 win over Lincoln County rival Enterprise.
Stud running back Jermaine Blackwell and the consistent passing of quarter back Brock Roberts paced the Bobcats.
Blackwell rushed for 176 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns.
Roberts completed 14 passes for 137 yards. He threw one interception. Roberts also rushed eight times for 87 yards.
“It was another good win for us, and it is always good to get a win over your cross-county rivals,” Bogue Chitto head coach Gareth Sartin said.
Roberts scored the first touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run late in the first quarter.
Blackwell found paydirt on a 6-yard touchdown run with 3:45 left in the first quarter.
Roberts took to the air again and found Dennis Rogers for a 14-yard touchdown strike.
The Bobcats led 21-0 at halftime.
Blackwell continued to dominate on the ground in the second half, scoring on touchdown runs of 4 and 75 yards.
With 6:36 left in the game, Bobcat Damien Terrell scored on a 7-yard run.
“Jermaine and Brock had another good night,” Sartin said. “We did make way too many turnovers in the game. We have got to work on cutting out the mistakes and finishing our drives. We had a couple of drives we should have gotten points on.”
Enterprise scored two quick touchdowns in the final minutes of the game. Jackson Cole scored on a 12-yard run and Austin Coleman scored on a 3-yard run following an on-sides kick recovery by the Yellowjackets.
Offensively, Rogers had five receptions for 90 yards, while Terrell caught two passes for 40 yards.
Bobcat kicker Cameron Price went 4-for-4 on extra points.
Cole led Enterprise with 19 carries for 84 yards. Coleman had 30 yards on 10 carries.
Defensively, Jeremy Blackwell led the Bobcats with 14 tackles. Jermaine Blackwell and Terrell each had six tackles and Roberts added five stops.
The Yellowjacket defense produced some bright spots for the Enterprise faithful, causing five Bogue Chitto turnovers in the game. James King, Layne Brown, Case and Cole each recovered fumbles, while Neil Ratcliff had an interception to his credit.
The Bobcats host Region 4-1A foe Natchez Cathedral on Friday in a battle of unbeaten teams.
“Cathedral is always tough,” Sartin said. “They throw the ball well with quarterback Thomas Garrity. They also have about eight other kids that can catch and run the football well. It will be a big test for us.”
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
