BOGUE CHITTO — Friday night was what one would expect from two ranked Mississippi High School Activities Association members slugging it out in a Division 4-1A match.
The Natchez Cathedral Green Wave and Bogue Chitto Bobcats met and Cathedral, ranked No. 3 in 1A, fell 51-48 to the No. 2 Bobcats in the district opener for both teams.
The Green Wave out-gained the Bobcats in many categories, but threw five interceptions in the game.
Cathedral jumped out to a 21-0 lead. Bogue Chitto answered, outscoring the Green Wave in the third quarter to take a 31-21.
The fourth quarter was fierce. Cathedral scored the first 20 points to regain the lead at 41-31.
Bogue Chitto answered on a 50-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Brock Roberts to Dennis Rogers to make it a 41-38 game.
With 8:20 left in the game, Cathedral scored again on a 36-yard pass play to extend its lead to 48-38.
Not to be outdone, the Bobcats responded once again. Roberts connected with Damien Terrell on a 35-yard touchdown pass.
With 4:18 left, Rogers got a 50-yard pick-six to give the Bobcats the 51-48 lead and the win.
Offensively for Bogue Chitto, Roberts had 226 total yards — 141 passing and 85 rushing. Jermaine Blackwell rushed for 140 yards.
Jeremy Blackwell led the Bobcat defense with 18 tackles.
Bogue Chitto improved to 3-0 and visits Mount Olive Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
