Southwest baseball hosted the College of DuPage and Southeastern Iowa C. C. in a three-way series on Saturday and Sunday, beating DuPage 6-5 and losing to Southeastern 9-7 and 12-1.
Talen Boyd started on the mound against College of DuPage. Boyd pitched 4.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Will McLeod relieved him, pitching 1.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Nathan Carter pitched the final 2.0 innings with one strikeout and picked up the win for the Bears.
Down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Bears tied the game on a Sam Tumminello single that scored Johnathan Miller.
After holding off DuPage in the top of the eighth, Southwest won in the bottom of the inning on a walk-off walk with the bases loaded.
Johnathan Miller had two hits and two runs.
Tanner Moore, Tristain Haynes, Drew Swan, Cam Bolden and Sam Tumminello all had a hit in the game.
JD Hidalgo (x2), Cam Bolden, Tristain Haynes, and Tanner Moore all stole bases.
In Game One against Southeastern Iowa, Southwest lost 9-7.
Rhyson Carroway pitched 5.0 innings with 11 strikeouts and only two runs allowed.
Tate Miller pitched 2.0 innings recording three strikeouts.
Nathan Miller pitched the final inning and picked up the loss for the Bears.
Landon French led the team with two hits.
Johnathan Miller, Sam Tumminello, Tanner Moore, and Tristain Haynes all had one hit.
JD Hidalgo, Johnathan Miller, Sam Tumminello and Tristain Haynes all stole a base in the game.
In Game Two against Southeastern Iowa, the Bears lost 1-12.
Konnor Cazenave, Andrew Hoff, Ian Edwards, Tee Robinson and Caden Case all saw time on the mound for Southwest.
Hoff recorded three strikeouts while Robinson had two and Case had one.
JD Hidalgo, Sam Tumminello, and Hayes Loper each had a hit in the game.
“We had a tough weekend, but we won three-of-five this week against some good teams. Right now, we are banged up and have some guys sick,” head coach Jack Edmonson said. “I was proud of the toughness our guys showed all week. We are looking forward to a slower week to get our feet back under us before conference starts.”
The Bears (14-5) travel to Scooba on Tuesday to play Pearl River and East Mississippi in a doubleheader.
