Southwest baseball played Hinds and Co-Lin in a three-way series at home Wednesday, defeating the former 11-10 before ousting the latter 10-9.
In the first game of the day, the Bears took down Hinds 11-10 in a 9-inning contest.
Andrew Hoff started on the mound for the Bears and took home the win. Hoff had one strikeout in three innings pitched.
Wyatt Garrett, Konnor Cazenave, and Brian Hankinson all saw time on the mound as well. Garrett had two strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched, and Hankinson recorded three strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.
Nik Carney came in for one inning to pick up the save for the Bears with two strikeouts of his own.
Hinds got off to a quick 3-0 lead through the first two innings before Southwest answered with big five-run third inning.
Tanner Moore started the frame off with a double for the Bears and scored shortly after on a Justin Domiano ground out.
A Robbie Hokamp single, Drew Swan fielder’s choice, and JD Hidalgo hit by pitch loaded the bases.
Luke Simmons singled to score Hokamp and Swan leaving Hidalgo on third base. Up next, Sam Tumminello hit a sac fly to score Hidalgo giving the Bears a 4-3 lead. The fifth run was scored by Luke Simmons on a passed ball moving the score to 5-3.
Southwest put up four more runs in a big fifth inning. Back-to-back hit by pitches and a bunt single loaded the bases for the Bears to start the inning.
A double play left only two runners on base, but a Hayes Loper single scored JD Hidalgo to put the score at 6-4.
Next, Tristain Haynes hit a blast to left field for a 3-run homerun to put the Bears up 9-4. It was the first of his career and the team’s second of the season.
The final two Bear runs came the very next inning when Landon French and Luke Simmons scored on a Sam Tumminello double.
The Bears would go on to win 11-10 with 15 hits in the game.
Tanner Moore, Drew Swan, and Luke Simmons all had three hits. Tristain Haynes had two including his home run.
Sam Tumminello and Tristain Haynes both had three RBIs. Luke Simmons had two while Justin Domiano and Hayes Loper both had one.
Justin Domiano, Luke Simmons, and Tanner Moore all stole a base in the contest.
After a game off for Hinds and Co-Lin to play each other, Southwest took on Co-Lin in a 9-inning battle that came down to extra innings.
The Bears would go on to win 10-9 in the bottom of the tenth.
Matt Newman started on the mound for the Bears recording three strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Easton Boyte came in for relief before Dom Smith would take the mound.
Smith had five strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched.
Rhyson Carroway came in to pitch the top of tenth inning and picked up two strikeouts and the win for Southwest.
The Bears started off with a quick 2-0 lead after the first inning with those two runs coming on a Justin Domiano double and a dropped third strike.
The tides quickly turned as Southwest was soon down 9-3 going into the bottom of the fifth.
The Bears pitching would hold Co-Lin scoreless from that point on as the offense would slowly chip away at that lead.
A Justin Domiano single scored a run to move to 9-4.
Tristain Haynes hit into a fielder’s choice to score Sam Tumminello and move the score to 9-5.
Tee Robinson scored on a passed ball to push the score to 9-6.
A three-run eighth would tie the game for the Bears, keeping the comeback hopes alive.
Justin Domiano hit a huge triple to score Tanner Moore and Luke Simmons to bring the score to 9-8. Domiano scored immediately after on a Drew Swan sacrifice to tie the game.
After a scoreless ninth inning from both teams, it was time for extra innings.
Two Rhyson Carroway strikeouts and a put out left the Bears with their next chance to win the game.
The first two batters popped out and struck out, leaving Southwest down in the inning.
Justin Domiano drew a walk and stole second before reaching third on a Drew Swan dropped third strike that left the winning run in scoring position.
JD Hidalgo was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Two pitches later, Justin Domiano scored the walk-off run on a passed ball at the plate leading to a walk-off 10-9 victory over Co-Lin.
Justin Domiano had a single, double, and triple in the contest as well as the game winning run. Domiano also had four RBIs.
Drew Swan had two hits in the game. Tanner Moore, JD Hidalgo, Sam Tumminello, and Tristain Haynes all had one hit.

“I’m very proud of our toughness our guys showed all day long. We played two quality opponents and were able to leave with two wins. We had several players that stepped up and made big time plays in big moments,” head coach Jack Edmonson said. “That’s what it takes to win in our league. I’m excited about where we are, and I believe the toughness we’ve been through early will help us down the stretch.”
The Bears (13-3) play College of DuPage and Southeastern Community College at home on Saturday and Sunday.
