A McComb woman died and her passenger sustained injuries Friday in a single-vehicle accident in which alcohol is believed to be a factor.
Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers responded at 9:31 p.m. to Highway 51 near the Guy Barkdull Road intersection just south of Dixie Springs.
Pike County Coroner Percy Pittman pronounced 46-year-old Valencia D. Duncan dead on the scene.
Her passenger, Malcolm Wilson Jr., 50, sustained minor injuries and went by ambulance to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
Pittman said Duncan and Wilson moved to the area from Sacramento, Calif. Wilson told authorities they had recently moved to a new residence north of Summit.
MHP spokesman Sgt. 1st Class Rusty Boyd said Duncan was northbound on Highway 51 in a 1996 Jeep Cherokee when the accident occurred.
Boyd said the vehicle apparently ran off the right edge of the roadway, causing Duncan to overcorrect and lose control.
The vehicle then began to roll in the roadway, ejecting the driver.
Neither Duncan nor Wilson was wearing a seat belt.
