Authorities are searching for a man who allegedly attacked a 15-year-old boy with a box cutter on Sunday.
McComb police responded to a report of an aggravated assault that occurred around 6 p.m. at Southgate Apartments on 14th Street.
Juan Reed, a resident at the apartment complex, told officers a man, known only as “Sed,” attacked Reed’s nephew, Detective Deska Varnado said.
The teen, whom authorities did not identify, reportedly suffered a severe cut across his abdomen and was taken by private vehicle to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, where he received 13 stitches.
Reed told officers his nephew came under attack after trying to defend a juvenile girl whom the attacker was allegedly pushing around, Varnado said.
When the teenager intervened, the man reportedly pulled out the box cutter and attacked the boy.
Varnado said the suspect was described as a black male around 19 or 20 years old.
