A man suspected of kidnapping, assaulting, raping and robbing a woman Wednesday in McComb remained at large today as police gather more clues about the attack.
Detectives released a photo of the suspect and identified him as 19-year-old Keethion Dontrel Turner. His last known address is 341 Third St., McComb.
Police received a report from the victim, who drove herself to the police department around 10:30 a.m. Officers then responded to the scene of the incident in the 300 block of Virginia Avenue.
Detective Shannon Sullivan said Turner somehow gained entry into the woman’s home and held her there against her will. The suspect reportedly assaulted her with what appeared to be a knife, then raped her.
Turner allegedly attempted to rob the victim by forcing her at knifepoint to leave and go to an ATM, Detective Deska Varnado said.
As the victim and suspect were leaving the house, however, the victim’s brother, who was outside cutting grass, noticed what was going on, prompting the suspect to flee.
Sullivan said the victim’s brother told his sister to go get help while he chased after the suspect on foot. The brother chased him for several blocks before losing sight of him.
After the victim drove herself to the police department, EMT units transported her to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. She remained hospitalized with apparent cuts or stab wounds this morning.
Officers intend to file charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, rape and armed robbery against Turner, who remains at large and may have driven to Amite County after the assault.
Amite County Sheriff Tim Wroten said his office received a call from a woman who told deputies her daughter was Turner’s girlfriend.
The sheriff said Turner reportedly picked up his girlfriend in Amite County and left with her.
Police consider Turner to be armed and dangerous and are warning the public to stay away from the suspect if they see him.
Anyone with information as to Turner’s whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at (601) 684-0033.
