The Pike County Little Theatre is poised and ready to deliver some big laughs with its production of “Noises Off.”
The play will run at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the State Theater. Tickets are $10 at the door.
Director John “Mack” MacKenzie said the play is a classic farce, revealing the offstage antics of a struggling group of actors.
“The play is a play within a play. It starts out messed up and everybody tries to correct that,” he said. “It just gets worse as it goes along.”
Actress and PCLT board member Jennifer Temple agreed the play is on the zany side. Her character, Mrs. Clackett, is particularly eccentric.
“She’s really unique, like she is crazy-weird,” she said.
Both Temple and MacKenzie agreed members of community should attend for some comedic relief.
“If you sit here and watch this play and don’t laugh, nothing is going to make you laugh because this gets really outrageous,” MacKenzie said.
Temple said the play is a good way to escape reality for a few hours.
“You can leave the world for a minute. leave your woes behind or just celebrate life,” she said.
MacKenzie, in his last directorial effort for PCLT, said he modified the play to make it more family-oriented, but it’s still rated PG-13.
Since the beginning of August, the cast has met three times a week, dedicating time and energy. Mackenzie hopes people will attend “Noises Off” due to the impact PCLT has on the area and its children.
“It’s important because it supports arts and culture in our community, which our kids need,” he said.
