KT’s Work Clothes is stuffed full of heavy-duty flame-retardant jackets and overcoats, racks upon racks of Dickies workpants and shirts and denim work jeans.
Owners Ken and Teresa Dickerson have been supplying Southwest Mississippi with work clothes since 2003.
The two have built their business from the ground up and developed a following.
The shop on West Presley Boulevard in McComb also has a a variety of comfortable-yet-stylish nursing scrubs, pants and shoes.
When the Cherokee clothing line offered KT’s a business arrangement, they were immediately pleased with the results.
“They are the best company there is for nursing clothing. They are the most popular by far. This has gotten a lot of business,” Ken Dickerson said.
The Dickersons expect over the long haul that nursing clothes will always be a staple of their business.
And Ken is keeping a close eye on the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale. If it turns into an economic success, the Dickersons believe their shop could be in high demand.
The shop sells the kind of tough, durable wear that is necessary to get through the blue-collar day. It’s the kind of place that could be essential for workers across the oil fields.
“A lot of these guys bring their clothing with them. They could use a place like this that sells the kind of work clothing they need,” Ken Dickerson said.
He said he keeps up with other stores and keeps his prices competitive. He said most of the business comes from drive-by traffic.
“They will see the shop, turn around and come in,” he said.
There are several reasons to shop there, Teresa said, but one big one stands out.
“It’s about keeping money in the community. Shopping locally is a lost art these days. These businesses are the livlihood of families that have lived here for generations,” she said.
Ken agrees with Teresa, and adding, “You can’t beat our customer service. We get to know our customers and provide them what they need in every detail. You don’t get that kind of experience at bigger stores.”
The Dickersons said they do well around Christmas time, but not surprisingly, it’s tax season that is their best time of year.
