Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center’s board of trustees have approved a budget of nearly $120 million for fiscal year 2017.
In a finance meeting held before the August hospital board meeting, trustees OK’d a budget that includes nearly $119 million in net patient revenue — including insurance, Medicare and Medicaid — and other operating revenue of $1.3 million. That money comes from interest earned on investments.
Total operating expenses are expected to be $119.6 million. Of that, nearly $54 million will go to salaries and wages, $26 million for supplies, nearly $8.7 million for repairs and maintenance, some $6.9 million for employee benefits, and the remainder spent on professional fees, purchased services, other operating expenses, utilities, rentals, depreciation and amortization and interest.
Operating expenses are $119.6 million, leaving $379,602 in revenue over expenses.
Also during the August meeting, the board approved the purchase of a Paragon interface with Pixis for $21,120 for inventory control, as well as a maintenance agreement with Citrix for the department of information service to allow remote access through iPhone and iPad.
Trustees also approved:
• An electronic signature system for Lawrence County Hospital and SMRMC to allow for paperless registration.
“This should speed up the admission process,” said Southwest Health System CEO Norman Price.
• Ceiling replacements in the labor and delivery suites, built in 1990, and renovation of two rooms.
