Whether it’s something to satisfy a sweet tooth, a piece of jewelry, baby gifts, scented oils or a last-minute Christmas present, The Flower Nook and Gift Shop offers shoppers an array of choices.
Longtime shop owner and floral designer Kelly Hart said now’s the time to come in and find a gift for that special someone or to stock up on reduced priced Christmas ornaments.
“Business has been good this year,” she said. “Our holiday open houses were really good. We had several of them to start the season off. Our Thanksgiving night out, a 25-year tradition, continues and was a big hit as always.”
Big sellers this holiday season have been tree toppers and ornaments, decorations and sweets — as in fudge made by The Flower Nook.
“We’ve done lots of fudge trays this year,” Hart said. “We make our own fudge. The most popular flavor for the holiday season is the red velvet cake fudge.”
Fudge sells for $11.95 per pound, with trays ranging from $26.95 to $38.95.
Other food gift ideas are gourmet food baskets, with prices to fit any budget. Items for the baskets include candied pecans, Mississippi Cheese Straw Factory items, Captain Rodney’s dip, Alice a la Carte items and more.
Right now, The Flower Nook is in winter wonderland mode, with trees decked out in all kinds of decor for sale. For the avid collector, a Coca-Cola tree is filled with all kinds of Coke ornaments and decorations.
Hart said the popularity of Elf on a Shelf continues to run high, and shoppers have just about picked apart the specially decorated store tree.
“This year we had an elf tree, and it’s just about naked. We sold the elf hat that was on top, the elf legs. There’s hardly anything left on it. I think it’s still kind of the rage,” she said.
This year, the tree decorating trend has been toppers with mixed-textured ribbons. Burlap and sparkle mixed together has been popular, Hart said. Christmas plates in bright red and lime green that have Scripture on them also are popular. In fact, The Flower Nook stocks many items that bear inspirational messages — ranging from hanging ornaments, to serving trays, to picture frames, clothing and jewelry.
Ornaments that glitter in gold, red, blue, green and purple have their places on trees, and there are specialty nativity scenes and Santa figurines — including a fireman Santa.
“We still have lots of things to make your house pretty and smell good,” Hart said.
And this week, shoppers can really save money on decorations. The Flower Nook’s Countdown to Christmas sale is under way, with prices reduced 35, 40 and 45 percent, Monday through Wednesday, respectively. On Dec. 26, the Christmas sale items are marked down 50 percent.
“Each day there is an additional discount. As Christmas approaches, and the discounts kick in, it’s a good time to stock up for next year,” Hart said.
Hart and her crew of 10 employees have been busy working in a shortened holiday sales season — only four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. They’ve made sure clients who want custom decorations have them in time for seasonal parties.
“We do a lot of (decorating) trees,” Hart said. “Thanksgiving fell so late this year, we started the week before Thanksgiving. We worked through the first week of December getting people ready to go.”
The Flower Nook offers delivery and gift-wrapping services which takes some of the pressure off of last-minute shopping.
Of course, there are many items at The Flower Nook that aren’t Christmas-related.
There’s the original Mississippi Cotton Boll Jewelry by Randy, with freshwater pearl necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
“They’re fairly new in the store and are real popular,” Hart said.
Other standout items include Lampe Berger lamp oils, baby gifts of pillows, blankets, frames and stuffed animals, a selection of collegiate items to satisfy the most avid school fans, and much more in the spacious shop.
And fresh flower arrangements for weddings, funerals, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and other special occasions are big business at The Flower Nook, making it a one-stop shop for Christmas and throughout the year.
