Criminals targeted two dollar stores in Pike County Sunday, one of which was robbed less than a month ago.
McComb police responded to a break-in at the Dollar General store at the McComb-Summit city limits on Highway 51 on Sunday.
Detective Robert Holmes said employee Lawanda Gill called police around 7:30 a.m. when she arrived for work and noticed the glass on the front door was broken.
Holmes said a glass cigarette display case inside the store was pulled off the wall but nothing was missing.
This isn’t the store’s first brush with crime.
At the same store on Aug. 27, a robber wielding a knife held up store clerk Caleb Bonson and demanded money from the cash register.
In September 2012, burglars took the screws out of an exterior metal wall to gain access to the store and steal about $3,000 in cash.
Also on Sunday, police responded to a strong-arm robbery at the Family Dollar store in Magnolia.
Magnolia police officers received a call around 6 p.m. and arrived at the store, 115 N. Clark Ave., shortly thereafter.
Police Chief Ray Reynolds said the robber walked behind the counter and approached clerk Deshauntrall Cole from behind as he was taking change out of the store’s safe.
The clerk complied with the robber’s demands and turned over the money from the safe.
The suspect was described as a black male wearing dark-colored shorts and a black hooded sweatshirt.
No weapon was used.
Reynolds would not say how much money was taken.
The individuals responsible in each of the cases remain at large.
