Local residents can test their funny bones again this weekend, with a new edition of the McComb Comedy Depot, presented by the Pike County Little Theatre.
International touring comic Tony Woods and nationally renowned comedian Jodi Borrello will head up the shows at 9 p.m. Friday and 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday at the Depot Theater, 206 State St., McComb.
Tickets are $15 and available from the PCLT by calling 250-7258.
“This will be a show you would normally only see in Las Vegas or New York,” said Skip Guidry, the Comedy Depot’s host comedian. “Tony has done three Comedy Central specials, and Jodi Borrello’s picture is on the billboard above Harrah’s in New Orleans. This is a really big deal. You could not see a funnier show without driving 200 miles and paying three or four times as much.”
The PCLT’s Comedy Depot is becoming a local favorite.
“The Comedy Depot is special,” said Larry Stewart, a little theatre board member and producer of the show. “The word is out about our audiences and our hospitality. Comedians want to play McComb. Getting these two comics on the same show is an amazing achievement for the theatre and for Pike County.”
Born in North Carolina and reared in the Washington, D.C. area, Woods’ many appearances include “HBO’s Def Jam,” “Last Comic Standing,” A&E’s “Caroline’s Comedy Hour,” “Showtime At the Apollo,” NBC’s “Friday Night Videos,” “Just For Laughs” and “N.Y.P.D. Blue.”
Comicsforhire.com calls Woods as, “simply the most underrated stand up comedian in America. Tony Woods is one of the best in the business — sly and dry, yet clever and quick.”
Woods has performed all over the world, gaining prominence in Europe and Australia, and he’s made late-night talk show appearances with Conan O’Brien.
Among his 20 or more television shows are “Comedy Central Presents Tony Woods,” “Comedy Central USO Tour” and “Comedy Central World Comedy Tour.”
Borrello is a fifth-generation New Orleans native whose home was flooded in Hurricane Katrina — giving her a wealth of material to turn disaster into comedy. Her material includes bits about rearing a teenager in New Orleans.
Borrello is a favorite at Budd Friedman’s Improv and is a regular for his clubs, including The Improv at Harrah’s Casino in Las Vegas. She opened for comedian Dennis Miller and was featured on CNN’s “Showbiz Tonight.”
