Preliminary autopsy results for the 2-year-old boy found dead Sunday in Pike County give no clear answers as to the child’s cause of death.
Coroner Percy Pittman said the State Medical Examiner’s report indicates Brayden Bentley Furr suffered minor contusions and superficial abrasions to his body, but those injuries did not appear severe enough to kill him.
The child’s postmortem lividity, which is the settling of blood in the lower portion of the body, indicates he died in a natural position, authorities said.
Authorities are still waiting on toxicology results and the child’s prior medical records, which they hope will contain clues to a possible cause of death, Pittman said. Toxicology testing can take up to six weeks to complete.
On Sunday morning, Rebecca Furr discovered her son dead in their home behind Lewis Wrecker, 2096 Highway 98 E., McComb.
Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Lance Falvey said Furr discovered the child dead around 6:15 a.m. when she came home from work.
Brayden had been in the bed with Rebecca Furr’s domestic partner, Ryan Dupre, and appeared to have been dead for several hours, authorities said.
Falvey said Rebecca Furr attempted to resuscitate the child but was unsuccessful.
The case remains under investigation.
