LIBERTY — Amite County School District trustees last month took action on numerous 16th Section lease matters.
The board approved the transfer of a residential lease held by the late James L. Whittington and transferred it to family member Jerry D. Whittington.
Trustees also accepted the bid from current leaseholder Tommy Rushing for a 619-acre hunting and fishing plots at $12 per acre. Leaseholder Tommy Rushing’s contract also was renewed at $12 per acre on two tracts: 237 acres and 119 acres.
Trustees also:
• Heard a school technology update from Reggie Matthews, who said the district has added 60 Chromebooks to the high school, as well as two mobile carts, three computer labs and 12 SmartBoards. Still to come are 120 more Chromebooks, three mobile carts, more than 70 desktops, SmartBoard training for 50 teachers, upgrades to current SmartBoards, more surveillance cameras, more computer lab renovations and more printers, keyboards and other accessories.
• Accepted the resignation of cheerleader sponsor Kimberly White and of special education teacher Lauren Brister.
• Approved America Reads Mississippi tutors for the elementary school for Jamie Lynn Honea, Shemika Selman, Fannie Tobias and Sheila Wicker.
• Hired Cavadas Nunnery as junior high basketball coach, TaKeya Felder as junior high girls basketball coach, Cathy Banks as track coach and Dickie Brooks as high school assistant football coach, Neal Smith as full time bus driver, Pamela Wilkinson for substitute bus driver and Rosie Nichols for cafeteria staff.
• Approved the Mississippi Forestry Commission’s recommendation of the bid of $4,000 from Brister’s Tree Service to remove 15 trees off school property and dispose of the debris.
• Approved an interagency agreement between AJFC Community Action Agency, Head Start and Amite County School District for special education services.
• Approved the following student transfers out of Amite Schools under the 30-mile residential rule for Ghaleb and Rawan Saleh, Maleek Strickland and Khadejah Alexander; transfers of Avery Lee Perry and Chance Logan Graves and Laila Grace Thomas for parental employment reasons; and transfers of Destinee, Gracie and Rowan Gautreaux under special circumstances.
• Accepted the high bid of $387 each for the sale of three obsolete school buses to Wayne Wallace, and a bid of $501 from John Knight for a fourth bus.
• Accepted the bid of $300 from Barbara McDowell for a 1998 Ford Escort.
