LIBERTY — Amite County supervisors have approved six-month bids for materials to be used on roads, bridges and other projects.
The board on Dec. 5 agreed to remain with First Bank as the official county depository with an interest rate of .32 percent. Trustmark bid .12 percent.
Other bids included:
• The Southern Herald for legals at 10 cents per word.
• Valley Services for providing meals to prisoners in the Amite County Jail.
• Hot and cold asphalt mix from Dickerson & Bowen, as well as recycled asphalt.
• Liquid asphalt and emulsions from Ergon, with alternates from Blacklidge Emulsions.
• Grader blades from Puckett Machinery.
• Bridge lumber from Gordon Redd Lumber.
• Concrete sand from Blaine Sand & Gravel, pea gravel and alternate bunch gravel from Oddee Smith Construction.
• County matt rock from Oddee Smith.
• Limestone from Lafarge.
• Expanded clay, Trinity Lightweight.
• Smooth interior plastic pipe, corrugated galvanized metal pipe and polymer coated pipe, all from Dial Inc.
• Railway tank car culverts, Diversified Railcar.
• Bridge construction, Oddee Smith Construction.
All bids were rejected for signs and for hire of trucks, tractors and equipment. Supervisors took all supply bids under advisement until they were sorted out and recommended by purchasing clerk Helen Wells, who finalized the list last week.
In other business, the board:
• Agreed to hire Marilyn Harvey at $11 per hour as needed in the tax assessor’s office on the recommendation of Eunice Blake.
• Approved a request from election commissioner Nelson Dawson for all five election commissioners to attend the 2017 ECAM annual convention in Philadelphia, Miss Jan. 25-27. Cost is $375 per person, plus reimbursement for mileage and meals.
• At the request of Sheriff Tim Wroten, moved Clarence Lilly from part time to full time dispatcher/jailer, effective Nov. 26 at $10 per hour.
• Granted permission to solid waste enforcement officer Murry Toney to write off $492 on a solid waste account for Janice Bishop on Mount Sinai Road.
• Approved payment of vacation days earned to Linda Futrell, who will retire Dec. 30 from the district attorney’s office. Keith Futrell will be taking Linda’s place as victim assistance coordinator, effective Jan. 1.
