The Amite County Sheriff’s Office Friday captured a suspected serial burglar who officials say has been on the loose for several months and is responsible for at least 11 burglaries.
Deputies arrested Dennis Faust Jr., 1590 Stump Road, Gloster, on five charges of residential burglary and six charges of vehicle burglary. Faust, 22, also had a warrant out for his arrest from the Mississippi Department of Corrections for violating his probation, Sheriff Tim Wroten said.
Amite sheriff’s deputies received information from the Centreville Police Department that Faust was hiding out in an apartment complex in Centreville. Both agencies worked together last week to close in on his location and take him into custody.
“I appreciate the Centreville Police Department working with us to get this guy arrested because without them, it was going to take a while,” Wroten said.
Wroten said that among other pieces of evidence, a cut on Faust’s arm indicated to deputies that they had the right person in custody.
During one of the house burglaries in Gloster, police arrived on the scene as the home’s alarm was going off and saw that the suspect cut himself while diving through a window to flee.
When deputies took Faust into custody, they noticed he had a cut that was consistent with what the suspected burglar would have had, Wroten said.
Most of the burglaries Faust is charged with occurred within the city limits of Gloster.
Wroten also said he believed Faust was committing the burglaries in order to support a drug habit.
Faust is being held without bond in the Amite County jail.
