TYLERTOWN — Walthall County supervisors are preparing to add several vehicles and pieces of pieces of equipment in the near future.
Board members examined proposals from prospective bidders on both garbage and dump trucks Monday morning, comparing the proposed vehicles to the advertised specifications and determining which firms were eligible to bid.
While as many as four firms submitted proposals for some of the vehicles, two firms at most were found eligible to bid after parts of other companies’ proposals were found to be non-compliant with the bid specs.
A common problem was that the county advertised for Allison-type automatic transmissions, while the proposals included manual transmissions.
Bidding was to be conducted through a reverse auction Wednesday.
Two other vehicles will be bought on state contract.
Supervisor Ken Craft said he would buy a pickup for District 2, and the board approved advertising for financing.
Supervisor Lloyd Bullock will also advertise for financing to purchase a backhoe for District 5.
In other business, the board:
• Learned that the courthouse elevator had been inspected and found deficient for problems with its emergency alarm, lighting and phone.
• Relected Supervisor Larry Montgomery as board president and rehired department heads and professional service providers.
