The McComb city board voted 3-2 Tuesday night to continue the suspensions against the police force's two top officers.
Police Chief Garland Ward will remain on suspension for 10 days and Deputy Chief Rodney Nordstrom's suspension will continue for seven days.
While both had previously been suspended with pay, their suspensions going forward will be without pay.
Additionally, Ward as ordered to take an anger management course, and Nordstrom was demoted to lieutenant.
Capt. Steve Powell's interim command of the department will continue.
City officials took the vote after a closed-door meeting, and proceeded with their regularly scheduled work session.
Selectmen Devante Johnson, Shawn Williams and Ronnie Brock voted in favor of the action, while selectmen Ted Tullos and Michael Cameron opposed. Selectman Donovan Hill was absent.
Police and city sources said Ward and Nordstrom were involved in an altercation at the police department between the two in the presence of other officers.
An investigation into the incident was expected to conclude late last week or early this week, city officials said.
