Pastor accused of sexually assaulting minor

McComb police have taken into custody a local pastor accused of sexually assaulting a minor.
Officers responded to the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center emergency room at 12:40 p.m. last Friday after receiving a report of a sexual assault on a minor.

- Dr. Arnold Smith, below, became wildly fixated on Lee Abraham, above -- an obsession that prosecutors claimed led to an unsuccessful assassination attempt on the Greenwood attorney in 2012. Smith has not had to face a criminal trial because of his mental illness and settled in 2019 a lawsuit filed by Abraham.

Dr. Arnold Smith, an eccentric but accomplished oncologist with a maniacal obsession about Lee Abraham, had been charged with hiring a felon to try to assassinate the Greenwood attorney, but the felon was gunned down instead.

An 82-year-old man died following an alleged assault early Thursday morning, and in a separate homicide case, a New Orleans man has been charged with murder in connection with a Wednesday shooting death in McComb, authorities said.
