A state trooper shot and wounded a man at the conclusion of a chase Thursday morning in Woodville, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.
The chase reportedly ended near the intersection of Third Street South and Depot Street in Woodville, according to media reports.
The Natchez Democrat reported that the man was shot twice in the leg.
Various news reports said he may have pointed a gun or opened fire on the trooper, but officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office did not speak to that.
The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, which is investigating the incident, said the man was receiving medical care.
Neither the name of the trooper nor the wounded man was released.
“The Attorney General’s Office is now actively engaged in what remains an open investigation. We will release more information as it becomes available,” the AG’s office said in a statement.
Officials with the AG’s office said a state law passed earlier this year requires the AG to investigate shootings involving state troopers that result in an injury.
