Prospective candidates for office in McComb made some major moves in the final two days of filing.
Former mayor Zach Patterson threw his hat into the ring Friday afternoon in an attempt to regain his former seat at City Hall.
Patterson, the city’s first black mayor, served one term, 2007-2011, and did not seek re-election to the post.
He filed to seek the Democratic nomination.
Also filing late Friday for the Democratic nomination was Terrance Turner.
Another Democratic candidate, Albert Eubanks, decided to concentrate on the mayor’s race and withdrew his filing for the Ward 3 selectman position he now holds.
That leaves three candidates, all Democrats, seeking the Ward 3 seat.
A total of eight candidates, three Republicans and five Democrats, are now seeking the city’s top job.
The last day of filing also brought a move to the selectman-at-large race.
Larry McDaniel, who filed to seek the Republican nomination for Ward 2 selectman, withdrew and refiled for the at-large seat. He is now among three Republicans and two Democrats seeking that post.
McDaniel’s move leaves the Ward 2 incumbent, Michael Cameron, a clear path to the general election as the GOP nominee.
The final two days of filing also brought full rosters to the Democratic and Republican municipal executive committees.
William DeCoux and A. Craig Haskins filed to round out the GOP committee, while Linda Hill and Barry Pickett filed for the Democratic posts.
Party primaries are May 1. A runoff, if needed, will be held May 15. The general election is June 19.

• Selectman Ward 4 — Eddie Thompson, Shawn Williams.
• Selectman Ward 5 — Ronnie Brock.
• Municipal Democratic Executive Committee — Linda Hill, Barry Pickett, Mickel Sandifer, Vernell Simmons, Amanda Victoria Upchurch.
The Republican filers are:
• Mayor — Suzette James, Tommy McKenzie, David Stewart.
• Selectman-at-large — Larry McDaniel, Omarr C. Peters, Vickie McCalip Webb.
• Selectman Ward 1— Ed Silence, Ted Tullos.
• Selectman Ward 2 — Michael Cameron.
• Selectman Ward 5 — Jimmy Price.
• Municipal Republican Executive Committee — Malcolm Allen, William DeCoux, Martha Fender, A. Craig Haskins, Kennon Singley.
