Severe weather will roll into the area tonight and continue through Saturday, when the threat of tornadoes and damaging hail ramps up for Southwest Mississippi, forecasters are warning.
Scattered strong and severe storms are expected to occur 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, bringing the possibility of isolated tornadoes, damaging wind gusts and large hail.
The overnight storms will preclude even dicier weather that is predicted for Saturday, with forecasters rating the threat level at a 3 or 4 on a scale that tops out at 5.
Tornadoes, including a few strong, long-tracked, twisters could accompany damaging winds and large hail, forecasters with the National Weather Service said Thursday.
That outburst of weather is expected to occur 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.
