Tylertown native Jordan Anthony made international headlines over the weekend when he took home gold in the men's 60m race at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland.
Making his major championship debut Friday, Anthony finished with a time of 6.41, the current fastest time in the world and the fourth-fastest in history.
The result was made even more impressive by the fact that--just 36 hours before the race--Anthony developed a blood clot in his arm following a doping control procedure due to the needle reportedly being inserted incorrectly.
Despite swelling and limited movement in his arm, Anthony competed with it taped and went on to win the championship.
This finish will likely vault Anthony into the spotlight on the national track stage, as at just 21 years of age, the former Chief can certainly set more records as the years go by. He currently trains in Florida as part of a group led by famous U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles, and Anthony's goal is to participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Originally born in California, Anthony was raised in Tylertown and attended the local high school. He went on to play college football at Arkansas while also still competing as a track athlete.
After deciding to pursue sprinting as a professional career, Anthony eventually earned a spot at the 2026 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in early March. There, the former Chief also won the 60m race, finishing with a time of 6.45.
