Tuesday is the deadline for survivors of the mid-March tornado outbreak to apply for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Assistance is available until 11:59 p.m. by calling the FEMA Helpline at (800) 621-3362, visiting DisasterAssistance.gov or via the FEMA mobile app.
Assistance was approved for Pike, Walthall, Covington, Grenada, Issaquena, Itawamba, Jefferson Davis, Leflore, Marion, Montgomery and Smith counties.
“Those with losses resulting from the March 14th-15th tornadoes and severe storms should consider applying,” a news release from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said. “Applicants are reminded that even if you have insurance, you are still encouraged to apply. Additional funds may be available.”
As of Monday, FEMA has distributed more than $23 million in individual assistance to 9,359 residents and more than $14 million in housing assistance, MEMA officials said.
