Parts of Amite, Wilkinson and Amite counties are under a tornado warning until 3:45 p.m.
The National Weather Service said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Centreville — or 13 miles west of Liberty — at 2:40 p.m. and was moving northeast at 40 mph.
The storm is likely to produce flying debris that will be dangerous to anyone without shelter, and it has the potential to damage or destroy mobile homes and damage roofs, windows, vehicles and trees.
The storm was expected to arrive in Liberty at 3:05 p.m., Smithdale around 3:20 and McComb and Summit around 3:35.
Areas along Interstate 55 from South McComb to just north of Summit were included in the warned area.
