A violent day in McComb ended with the death of one man and the wounding of two others in separate shootings that occurred hours apart Wednesday, and police are still looking for the gunmen involved in the shooting death.
Cody Gallagher, 20, was shot multiple times at his residence at 403 Earl St. in the White Acres housing projects around 8 p.m. and succumbed to his injuries at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center around 10:30, Police Chief Juan Cloy said.
Cloy said three Black male suspects remained at large Thursday morning.
A motive hadn’t been immediately established, and police have no description of the suspects or their vehicle.
The shooting that killed Gallagher happened less than three hours after a man allegedly shot and wounded two of his relatives after a dispute in east McComb.
Charles Bullock Jr., 21, surrendered to police around 11 p.m. in connection with the shooting in the 200 block of South Chestnut Street, Cloy said.
The victims, John Lang, 51, and DeAndre Lang, who is reportedly in his 20s, went by private vehicle to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center after they were shot multiple times.
DeAndre Lang was treated and released from the hospital, while John Lang was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. His condition was not known Wednesday morning.
Cloy said the Langs were cousins to Bullock.
He decried the level of violence taking place in such a short amount of time.
“It says something about young people and guns and anger or just the lack of value for life. How much do they think their life is worth if they don’t value other people’s lives?” Cloy said. “When you pull the trigger, it’s the beginning. It just began.”
