A powerful storm system left property damage in its wake, including a fire station, and blew down trees and power lines, leaving thousands of people in the dark Wednesday.
Magnolia Electric Power had more than 12,000 of its meters darkened during the peak of its outages. It still had more than 7,000 without power due to 250 outages as of early Wednesday afternoon, with more than 1,000 meters restored.
Entergy’s grid remained mostly intact in McComb, but still saw wide swaths of darkness across Southwest Mississippi, with more than 3,600 customers without power and crews working on 129 outages.
Pike County Civil Defense Director Tina Reed said she had received no reports of property damage, with one exception.
“Right now the only damage is there’s a big tree that fell on Sunny Hill’s Station 1 on Magnolia-Pisgah Road,” she said. “There’s been a lot of trees and powerlines but no damage.”
Amite County Civil Defense Director JD Paulk said he had several reports of property damage throughout the county but was still assessing how many structures were affected and the severity. He said he had received no reports of injuries.
Paulk said numerous trees fell in the county, but crews had most of the roads cleared by early Wednesday afternoon.
