McComb is in the market for an airport board representative.
Mayor Quordiniah Lockley told board members Tuesday night that Dr. Ed Silence had sent him a text message tendering his resignation from the airport board, effective Oct. 1.
He said the airport board seat Silence occupied is a city-appointed seat, and the city will advertise for applicants.
Silence’s appointment was a matter of contention starting in February 2019, when a joint city and county appointment was due for action. The city board, taking its turn to make the appointment, voted to install educator Silence rather than retain engineer Walt Holifield.
The county board of supervisors balked at approving Silence, and the dispute dragged on for more than a year until the county agreed to a new appointment of former McComb mayor Zach Patterson in May 2020. The city then appointed Silence to a position approved solely by the city.
