A 29-year-old man who was shot in McComb on Nov. 10 died from his wounds Monday morning at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, and a man has been charged in connection with the killing.
Cedric O. Carter, 29, was shot on Beech Street in McComb.
He was taken to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to UMMC, McComb Police Chief Detective Victoria Carter said.
He died at 10:48 a.m. Monday, Pike County Coroner Wally Jones confirmed Tuesday.
Christopher Wilkerson, age and address unknown, has been charged with murder in the case.
Police upgraded those charges from aggravated assault following Carter’s death, Detective Carter said.
Carter’s shooting happened the same day Quintin Gayden, 38, was shot dead while sitting in his car near Avenue F and North Cherry Street.
It’s unclear if the two shootings were related.
Detective Carter on Tuesday did not give a motive for Cedric Carter’s shooting. Nor did she provide details of the shooting, including how many times Carter was shot or where he was hit.
Jones said an autopsy had yet to be completed but would answer some of those questions.
“We’re sending for an autopsy in Pearl and we’re waiting for a date to get that completed. From there, we will release the body to a funeral home,” Jones said.
Peoples Undertaking Co. is handling funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.
