The victim of a Thanksgiving Day shooting on Joe Tucker Road in the progress community of southeastern Pike County is expected to make a full recovery, Sheriff Wally Jones said.
Deputies responded to what was reported as a drive-by shooting on Joe Tucker Road Thursday afternoon.
It was the second shooting reported in the county on Thanksgiving Day, Jones said. The other was reported on Pounds Road just southeast of Magnolia and resulted in property damage.
“Detectives believe to have identified the motive for the shootings, as well as the potential suspects for each,” Jones said.
Two held after Summit gunfire
A man and woman face multiple misdemeanor charges following a shooting in Summit just after noon Friday, police said.
The shooting on Holly Street was the result of a domestic dispute between the two, officials at the scene said.
The woman had apparently slashed the man’s tires and he retaliated with gunfire, officials said.
He’s charged with simple assault and discharging a firearm in city limits, and she’s charged with trespassing and malicious mischief.
Neither suspect’s name was released.
Mother says daughter’s boyfriend was carjacked
In another case, a mother said her daughter was the victim of a carjacking in McComb last weekend.
Lacie Gennaro posted on Facebook that her 17-year-old daughter met her boyfriend to go to a friendsgiving dinner on Nov. 23 and left her parked at ALDI.
They went to get her car around 9:30 p.m. and were approached by two Black males who forced them out of the vehicle, told them to leave their possessions behind and took the boyfriend’s car.
“Thankfully they were not physically harmed, we are counting our blessings,” Gennaro wrote.
Interim Police Chief Tony Varaksa said Wednesday that he had not been made aware of the report and had no other information.
