Authorities are searching for a Lawrence County man with Pike County ties who has been missing for nearly a week.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation released a Silver Alert for Gregory Donell Varnado, 42, on Saturday evening.
He was last seen around 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Verious Lewis Lane in Lawrence County, driving a blue 2020 Chevrolet Equinox with a Mississippi tag.
Family members stated that Varnado suffers from a medical condition that may impair his judgment, and he is a diabetic.
Varnado is 5-foot-9 and weighs approximately 200 pounds.
“We have attempted to ping his phone, but the phone is off. We have attempted to locate his vehicle through On-Star,” Lawrence County Sheriff Ryan Everett said.
The sheriff added that his personal information and vehicle information has been listed on the National Crime Information Center database.
“Varnado is not wanted for criminal activity. He is a missing person, and we would all like to hear from him so we know he is OK,” Everett said.
Varnado’s brother, George Varnado of Magnolia, has been active on social media seeking assistance in finding his brother’s whereabouts and organizing other residents to help search the area on ATVs and side-by-side vehicles near the area where Varnado was last seen.
“We believe he is not far from where they live,” George said on social media. “It’s hard to sleep when you have a loved one out there and don’t know where they are.”
The sheriff’s department asked that if residents have seen Varnado or have information about his whereabouts, they should call them at 601-587-2961.
