Foul smells and raw sewage running along Maddox Avenue during heavy rains has vexed residents for about a month, but McComb’s public works director said crews are expected to begin tackling the problem this morning.
Resident Wenzo Taylor said the problems have caused untreated wastewater to pool near her home.
“When it was raining, the sewer was running all up the street,” Taylor said.
On Tuesday, an Enterprise-Journal reporter saw dark gray, foul-smelling water seeping from a piece of wastewater infrastructure on Maddox Avenue near North Locust Street.
Public Works Director Eric Spurlock said Tuesday that he planned to have crews at the site making repairs this morning.
Taylor said a bad smell accompanies the pooling wastewater during heavy rains.
‘It’s been a problem for about a month,” she said.
Taylor said this is not the first time the sewer system has caused problems near her home.
“I would like for the city of McComb to come out and fix this problem,” she said.
Spurlock said a burst water main delayed crews from addressing the Maddox Avenue problem earlier.
“We were going to get there today, but we had a water main bust,” he said Tuesday. “We’re going to fix it first thing tomorrow morning if nothing else comes up.”
