Christmas is a busy time at Ginny’s Gifts and Collectables in McComb, which offers a wide range of Christmas items, including nativity sets, cards, ornaments and Bibles.
“Usually, this is my busiest time of the year because people will be wanting to buy gifts and things,” owner Evelyn Bell said. “I’m always proud of my sale on Bibles.”
The store offered nativity sets from Jim Shore in 2021, and this year it’s offering sets by Roman.
Bell takes special care to select which Christmas cards the store offers.
“I handpick my cards because they just send you anything,” Bell said. “I go through and pick. These are special.”
Churches throughout Southwest Mississippi have been one of Ginny’s Gifts and Collectables biggest supporters throughout the year.
“Some of my better moments have been with the churches buying their communion,” Bell said. “Whatever they need for the churches, I’ve been doing real well with that.”
Bell said the majority of her customers come from Southwest Mississippi.
“I get them from Gloster, Liberty, Brookhaven, Tylertown — just all around,” she said.
Bell said most of her Christmas sales come in November and December, but sales start picking up in the fall.
“I try to be putting it out around the last of September,” she said.
In addition to Christmas and religious-themed merchandise, Ginny’s Gifts and Collectibles sells items with New Orleans Saints, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Southern Miss logos on them.
Bell said she plans to expand in this area in 2023.
“I do intend to get Jackson State’s,” she said, adding that the Tigers’ most recent successful season has made JSU merchandise more readily available. “Now, you can get what they have.
“I will keep supplying my customers, as usual, for whatever they need,” Bell said. “We’re getting new items constantly.”
