McComb officials appear unlikely to take over the Dinah cemeteries in the southern part of the city.
Mayor Quordiniah Lockley said information requested from the committee now in charge of the cemeteries shows limited space available in Dinah 1, with a number of spaces reserved in both Dinah 1 and Dinah 2.
However, there is no layout of where graves are located in the cemeteries, Lockley said, and many, if not most, of the graves are unmarked.
“They may not know if someone is buried in a spot until they start digging,” Lockley said. “This would be a headache for the city.”
