Authorities are investigating the death of a child at a Walthall County daycare center.
Coroner Chris Blackwell said sheriff's deputies responded to TLC Daycare and Learning Center at 221 Rushingtown Road around 3:30 p.m. Monday, where a 3-year-old boy was found unresponsive.
Blackwell declined to say where on the premises the child was found. Photos from the scene broadcast on television news Monday evening showed a white passenger van parked behind crime scene tape.
The cause of death hasn't been determined and an autopsy has been ordered.
The sheriff's department has called in the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to assist with the case, Blackwell said.
The Mississippi State Department of Health, which regulates child care facilities, had no recorded violations at the center in inspection reports going back more than two years.
According to records on file with the MSDH, the center can serve up to 68 children.
Records filed with the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office showed that the center’s owner, Audrey C. Smith, registered another business, Visionary of Faith Learning Academy LLC, at the same address on Aug. 1.
