The second suspect in a shooting that killed one person and wounded another nearly two months ago in East McComb has been captured after leading officers on a chase.
Brycen Brumfield, 17, was wanted in the Feb. 5 slaying of Andra Cotton, 20, who died of multiple gunshot wounds at a house at 720 Ave. D. Brandon Celestine, 18, was shot in the hand during the incident.
Another suspect, Ladarius Magee, 17, has been in custody since February.
McComb Police Chief Juan Cloy said officers apprehended Brumfield, considered he primary suspect in the shooting, with the assistance of Pike County sheriff's deputies.
Cloy said officers spotted Brumfield after receiving a tip about the type of vehicle in which he was riding.
“He led officers on a foot pursuit in a wooded area for approximately an hour prior to his apprehension,” Cloy said. “Again, we have another young person potentially losing his freedom for the rest of his life. Sad.”
Cloy said after the shooting in February that Brumfield was free on bond after being charged with accessory after the fact in connection with the slaying of a pregnant woman in Gulfport. The chief said Brumfield's brother is a suspect in the Gulfport shooting.
The East McComb shooting occurred a week after police descended on the Avenue D house while arresting Celestine’s twin brother Brenton Celestine, who was wanted in a shooting that took place Jan. 28 at the Five Points intersection at Presley Boulevard and South Broadway, injuring Quatasia Nobles, who was shot in the finger while she was sitting inside a vehicle, in what may have been a case of mistaken identity.
Brenton Celestine faces charges of aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle in that case.
A little more than two weeks after the shooting that killed Cotton, his girlfriend, Branesha Celestine, 19, of McComb, was found dead on Feb 22 of multiple gunshot wounds at the Family Dollar store on Crosby Street in Centreville.
Officials told news outlets that witnesses reported seeing a car pull in behind Celestine’s vehicle and block it as a single gunman approached her car and shot into it.
