Shawn Williams and Eddie Thompson will face off in a Nov. 8 runoff election for McComb's vacant Ward 4 selectman seat after leading a field of four candidates in a special election Tuesday.
Williams, who previously held the seat, finished with 82 votes (34%), while Thompson had 80 (33%), according to unofficial and uncertified results.
Jeffrey James had 58 votes and Gerald Barnes had 21.
Six affidavit ballots, not enough to statistically affect the outcome of the election will be counted in the morning.
The winner will replace former Selectman John Bates, who died in September, a little more than two months after taking office in July.
