Eddie Thompson has defeated former McComb selectman Shawn Williams in McComb's special election for Ward 4 selectman.
Thompson had 176 votes to Williams' 162, according to Tuesday's unofficial and uncertified results.
Two affidavit ballots have yet to be counted but those won't affect the outcome of the race.
The special election came after Ward 4 Selectman John Bates died Sept. 2.
Mayor Quordiniah Lockley said Thompson will be sworn in at Thursday’s board meeting.
“I knew that the election would be close,” Lockley said. “It would be determined by those who would get their people out to vote and, apparently, Mr. Thompson got his people out and they voted overwhelmingly for him and we have a new person on our board."
“I’m looking forward to working with Selectman Thompson.”
