David Lee Brewer has won the runoff for Pike County judge against Amelia Carter, and Loretta Conerly defeated Sheilar Conerly Pickens in the runoff for Pike County Central District Justice Court judge.
Brewer won his race with 2,840 votes (68%) to Carter’s 1,312 (32%) in the race for county judge.
Conerly defeated Conerly Pickens 679 (65%) to 361 (35%).
Brewer will replace John Price, who is retiring when his term ends at the end of the year, and Conerly will serve the remaining year of former Justice Court Judge Melvin Hollins’ term after he resigned earlier this year.
“When you look at the results across the board it also shows the voters voted for experience,” Brewer said of he and Conerly’s victories.
Brewer has served as county prosecutor for the past 17 years, and Conerly had been a justice court clerk since 1996 before county supervisors appointed her earlier this year to serve in place of Hollins.
“The people showed me they wanted me in this job,” Conerly said, adding that her interactions with people in justice court served her well during the campaign. "They remember how you treat them. I’ve always had an outgoing attitude. We have had to serve people and that’s what we do, we do it with respect.”
