Sheriff’s investigators are still looking for multiple suspects in a Labor Day weekend shooting in east McComb in which gunmen shot into an occupied apartment.
Chief Deputy Brad Bellipanni said nobody was wounded in the shooting that took place at about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 4.
He said two men, whose names haven’t been released, got out of their vehicle at the apartments on Avenue B Extension, went to go inside but found the door locked.
“They noticed a black Dodge Durango turned on to Avenue B, turned around and stopped,” Bellipanni said. “Multiple people got out and started opening fire on (the two gentlemen)."
Bellipanni estimated the gunmen fired 20 to 25 shots.
"They drove off,” he said. “They have no idea who it is and who drove off. We processed the scenes and covered some bullet casings and we have those in evidence," he said.
Bellipanni said a motive hasn’t been established, but he noted it follows a similar pattern of other shootings.
“We believe it’s just an ongoing issue in McComb and Pike County with a gang-related shooting that doesn’t seem to stop,” he said.
The sheriff’s office handled the case because the home is just outside the McComb city limits.
