A Pike County sheriff’s deputy who heard gunshots from the department’s parking lot didn’t have to look too hard to find some of the people involved in a shooting on Tuesday afternoon.
“He pulled out of the parking lot and they came flying by him,” Sheriff Wally Jones said.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and discovered it had been riddled with bullet holes and the occupant had been targeted in the shooting but escaped injury.
The stop occurred on Fortenberry Avenue near North Clark Street in Magnolia, where police are investigating the case since the shooting was determined to have occurred in Magnolia city limits.
“We handed everything over to Magnolia,” Jones said.
Magnolia Police Chief Sonya Woodall said the shooting occurred at a convenience store on the corner of North Clark Street and McKay Road.
She said that while the victim was armed, security footage from the store showed that he did not fire back during the fracas.
No suspects had been identified as of Tuesday afternoon, she said.
