A Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a person Easter Sunday morning, and state officials are investigating the matter.
The shooting occurred around 10:30 near the intersection of Highway 550 and Horseshoe Road.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Bailey Martin said the deputy was parked on the side of Highway 550 when the person approached the officer’s vehicle with a gun.
Martin said the deputy shot the person, who succumbed from the wounds.
Neither the deputy nor the person killed was identified.
“MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office,” Martin said.
